Artist Biography – K. Tschährä
K. Tschährä is a Finnish visionary and mediumistic artis and based in Tampere, near the Sacred Lake (Pyhäjärvi). Her artistic journey began in childhood and developed through formal studies in art history as well as a year as an exchange student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Early in her career, her style was more naturalistic and romantic.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tschährä began practicing automatic drawing, a technique sparked by TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) in which the body moves involuntarily. This process produces intricate patterns and fractal forms, which she interprets as expressions of the microcosm and macrocosm, blending cellular imagery with cosmic themes.
Her work is deeply influenced by shamanistic traditions and reflects a profound sense of interconnectedness among all life forms. Many of her pieces also incorporate musical elements.
Katja uses the artist name K. Tschährä to distinguish her visionary and mediumistic work from her earlier naturalistic style, creating a clear identity for this unique artistic expression. The name Tschährä is her family’s original Karelian surname, with a documented lineage tracing back to the 1600s. Her ancestors lived in Metsäkylä, Impilahti, in Ladoga Karelia — a region Finland lost to Russia in wars in the 40s.
Katja Tschährä has exhibited internationally, including at The College of Psychic Studies in London and within the Collection of Mediumistic Art (CoMA). In Finland, her work has been shown at the Rauma Art Museum, and she has been invited as a featured artist at the K. H. Renlund Museum in Kokkola. Additionally, she is recognized as a Finnish visionary artist in a nonfiction book about Aleksandra Ionowa, highlighting her importance in the national art scene.
These prestigious platforms and recognitions have enabled her to share her unique vision with a wider audience and connect with other artists and collectors invested in visionary and mediumistic art.
Her drawings invite viewers to explore layered depths, sense the embedded energies, and embark on a contemplative journey of inner connection and spiritual resonance.
